Oyster Shrooms

I'm just back from the local produce market, having picked up the sides for a T-Rex Saturday night. They finally had oyster shrooms; they look so good I'm tempted to just saute them in butter and serve alongside the steaks. Any comments from those who've been lucky enough to find them?[p]TIA

BlueSmoke,
Ken, I like to toss them in a zip lock with Italian dressing and marinate 15-20 minutes then toss direct high in egg @350F and turn a few times ready in 10-15 min. Happy Easter

I have had great lick egging them this way. First I mist them with EVOO and then a light dusting of a favorite, but not too powerful rub. goooood stuuff!!!

BlueSmoke,
grill over hot coals till the edges start to crisp and eat immediatly while still hot. oil and rub works well
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
Just a couple of flips and serve piping hot.[p]Sautéed in butter would be awesome, too.... hard to go wrong with this fungi.[p]This is shot was taken by Chubby at last year's Waldorf Eggfest.[p]John

WooDoggies,[p]That is hardcore! What's a ballpark cost per pound on those? [p]~thirdeye~

thirdeye,[p]I hate to tell you this but I live in the mushroom capitol of the world. I can walk into the office at Phillips Mushrooms, ask for a 3 lb box of oyster shrooms and they will smile, walk in the back, hand pick them, box em up and hand them to me while I hand them $9.
Same with portabella, crimini, shitake and so on.
I'm not sure what they go for retail.... maybe $5-6 a lb? It's a crime, I know.[p]John

WooDoggies,[p]That's food for thought. Anytime one of our friends goes to the big city, everyone adds something or other to their shopping list. It kind of takes the sting out of living in the sticks.[p]Our mushroom farm only has 3 choices: portabellas at $4,criminis at $1.70 and buttons at $1.40. The prices are good, but they have no plans to expand their variety.[p]~thirdeye~

WooDoggies,
Last time you posted the shroom pic, I looked at their web site and was not able to find out if they would ship to individuals. Do you know? TIA.Richard Florida
-
Richard,[p]Last time I talked to them they said that they do not ship to individuals and only sell wholesale and added that the walk in business is provided as a service for the locals. Next time I'm in, I will ask again but I don't think the policy has changed.
Hey, if you come up to Waldorf, I'll bring you a box.... how's that for incentive? :~)[p]john
-
thirdeye,[p]That is a good price on those. It really is hard to beat fresh mushrooms and you're lucky if you can regularly get them. We use them in all kinds of recipes.... one of nature's perfect foods.[p]john
